The choreographer explores the question of who we are today, focusing on the unique experiences of Crips* and their mental health. The performance explores collective trauma, acceptance, and discovery, highlighting our collective identity.
As I step into the studio each day, the persistent question echoes in my mind: "Who am I today?”
What a Crip*/different body can do when it enters space?
Is a Crip’s person’s mental health different from any others?
Have we collectively gone back to how our lives were before the pandemic? Moreover, how does it feel?
The choreographer employs various choreographic tasks as a means to unravel these inquiries and seek meaningful responses.
A performance about our collective or individual mental health, trauma, acceptance, discovery and moving forward.
*Crip definition: A term used historically to stigmatize and oppress disabled people. It has been reclaimed by some disabled people. It should only be used with permission from the community or person who is being referred to, for the choreographer is a political statement of rejecting the normative.
